G.H. Mumm Blanc de Blancs
Production
G.H. Mumm uses the méthode champenoise for their champagne production. Blanc de Blancs is composed of 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay grapes from a single vineyard in Cramant. This champagne undergoes malolactic fermentation as part of the process. The dosage is 6 gr/liter. It is bottled at 4.5 atmospheres of pressure, on the low side compared to the usual 6 atmospheres for most champagne. This is done in part because the acidity tends to be overly aggressive for a full bead. It is reportedly from just one vintage, but it is not labeled with a vintage. It rests on the lees for approximately 3 years.
Introduced in 1930, this was one of the first blanc de blancs champagnes. The folded corner on the label represents a time in the past when this champagne was set aside for friends of the House. The Mumm Blanc de Blancs was presented in person by the House along with a special folded visiting card to honored guests.
G.H. Mumm was purchased by Pernod Ricard in 2005.
