Sovereign Brands announced that it sold it’s Armand de Brignac champagne brand to a new company led by the rapper Shawn "Jay Z" Carter. Armand de Brignac is well known for it’s “Ace of Spades” logo on their metallic champagne bottles. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed. The Armand de Brignac brand was introduced in 2006 by the New York wine and spirits company Sovereign Brands in partnership with Champagne Cattier. The Cattier house is a family owned champagne house established in 1763. Currently, eight people produce the high-end champagne in the French town of Chigny-les-Roses. There are three commercially available labels in the Armand de Brignac champagne collection. The gold label “Ace of Spades” is a basic brut that retails for about $270, the pink label “Ace of Spades” is a rose’ retailing for around $440, and the silver label “Ace of Spades” is a blanc de blancs that also sells for about $440. The metallic gold champagne bottle was first featured in one of his 2006 music videos. It has since gained popularity with the Hip Hop culture. Jay Z also reportedly displayed 350 of the “Ace of Spades” champagne bottles at a 2012 fundraiser that he and his wife Beyonce Knowles threw for President Barack Obama. Armand de Brignac champagne is also popular among athletes. Various sports teams, including the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Bruins, have celebrated championships with this champagne brand. The Boston Red Sox opened a 15-liter (Nebuchadnezzar) bottle of the “Ace of Spades” champagne after the team won the 2013 World Series.
